It's HOT AF & I'm Over It
When I hear the term "hot flash" I cringe. I think it's the word flash-which means to move or pass very quickly.
Let's call them power surges instead of hot flashes.
A "power"- the capacity to direct or influence- "surge"- a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, just sounds, well, powerful.
I know what you are thinking, isn't the goal for them to move or pass very quickly?
Maybe. Or maybe not.
Call them what you will, but in my opinion, thinking that way is more forceful, and when it comes to the heat what I've learned is you can't force it out.
The power comes from acknowledging the heat without freaking the F out. And, no this is not an easy thing to do. It takes practice and patience.
My "power surges" happen at night. It feels like someone has put me in an oven while it's preheating.
I have a choice at that moment to get upset that it is happening, freak out, and start the dreadful internal dialogue-
"I'll never get a good night’s sleep again", "Ugh, I won't be able to function tomorrow", or my fave "F*ck this sh*t, I bet J Lo never has a power surge".
OR
I can lean into the calmer, more helpful thoughts-
"This is rough at the moment but it will pass". "I will be fine, that's what coffee is for". "Maybe J Lo does have them, there has to be something wrong with her".
And then I focus on what I can control, my breath. So, after I've thrown off all the blankets, taken off some clothes, and calmed my mind, I start to practice paced breathing. I breathe slowly from my belly and concentrate on it, accepting that the surge will pass, and I let it flow over me.
If you are experiencing power surges, weight gain, moodiness, and acne, and are constantly fighting these and other symptoms of perimenopause I feel ya. It can be really frustrating and isolating to not understand or know where to start looking for relief.
Aren't you tired of suffering through all of this on your own? I was. And that is why I am here.
The work that I do is inspired by my journey through perimenopause.
Can I guarantee that this will work for you? Anyone who "guarantees" you results is probably taking your money and running. If you show up for yourself, do the work, and believe you are worthy enough to then move over J Lo there's a new b*tch in town.
With small shifts in your behavior, patterns, and mindset we can transform, and rewrite your relationship with your mind and your body.
